Project Cadiz (stage 1)

After upgrading my old pc in late 2023 I was left with an extra motherboard, CPU, and RAM, but I was missing an SSD, which I did not have at the time, it wasn't until summer of 2024 that I upgraded my SSD on my main PC that I officially started this project, it was at that point that I decided to buy a cheap power supply and make a new pc out of it, the only thing I was missing was a box, but that was no problem, as I managed to fit the components in a small cardboard box, which ended up looking pretty funny.

Why is it called "Project Cadiz"?

The name ocurred to me when I was gonna go to my grandparents' beach house which is in Cadiz, my main pc was just too big to fit in the car along with all the other stuff, so I opted to take my other pc (which fit perfectly).

How much stuff have you replaced from the original parts?

I started off with 8GB of DDR4 2133MHz ram (1x8) and added an extra 8GB module the thing is these 2 modules were different, which I knew could cause problems, but didnt think it would be much of an issue, but once I saw a few issues arise I quickly removed 1 of the sticks and kept running just 8GB, the next thing I added was a WLAN card from my own pc, which I stopped using because I now use ethernet on my main PC, after that I replaced the ram entirely this time, and added 16GB of Corsair Vengeance LPX, and the final thing I replaced was the CPU cooler, it was about 7 or 8 years old and it made weird noises, but the temperatures weren't bad (22ºC - 27ºC), so thats why I waited so long to replace it, I mostly replaced because of the annoying sound it made

What's next?

The next stage of the project will be a case, which I've been putting off for a long time, after that I'm thinking about buying an older GPU and a new power supply because the one I have currently doesnt have the neccesary power connectors for a GPU.

Project Cadiz (stage 2)

Stage 2 started with a proper case for the project, I used an old case a friend gave me, it's way to big for the project but it was free so i'm not complaining

What about the GPU?

After getting the case and fitting everything in it I decided to buy a used 2060 for about 150€, which was a decent price I guess. I had to buy a new power supply in order to use the GPU, but after re building everything again I ended up with a pretty good machine price to performance wise, I also removed the WLAN card, because I did't really like the idea of using parts from my current pc, so I used a USB wifi adapter.

What's next for stage 3?

I'm not 100% sure, the project isn't finished, there are still some things I wanna polish, so during stage 3 i'm really just gonna focus on aesthetics.
